DJ Stiletto invite May 13th 2012 Unsigned artists; Just by showing up without knowing if you would get to perform or not or if there would be a crowd or not; proved that you want your MUSIC OUT THERE FOR THE WORLD TO KNOW about it and about you as an artist. In other words you have what it takes to continue and have the potential to succeed. For those who were on the invite and did not even bother showing up canceling or calling; you owe yourself an apology because you failed yourself and your action made it hard for the artists coming for the open mic to perform. "You don't know what you don't know." and sadly it might be why despite your apparent talent you may see people who appear to be less talented than you pass you by; because they want it more than you do. I suggest you look up Universal Republic (pause) and look it up again (pause). Now look up at DJ Stiletto's sponsor on your left (pause). Do I need to spell it? okey : #FAIL. People will only believe in you if you believe in yourself. Talk is cheap and actions always betray an individual true intentions. If you are looking for someone to do your work that person is not coming. Excuses are for the mentally weak. You can't hate on the music industry underground or mainstream when you don't even step up to the plate. Truly if you can't show up to your own show do not expect to be pushed to the next level. Being introduced to press to managers and A & Rs of the largest record labels is what comes naturally to those dedicated enough to show that they have a "Burning desire" in what they do. Could we have done more promotion? Yes. Could we have brought in a headliner? yes. But would it help you as an up coming artist to learn how to hold your own and know your own strength? How do you become the next Eminem? Jay Z; or B.I.G? By waiting for them to bring the crowd to you or by building a buzz on your own? Show up; put up; or shut up! I learn from last night that I have great friends and they came to support my effort as an entrepreneur. They know I take anything I do seriously and that I am not afraid to kick doors open to get what I want. Do you know what it took for DJ Stiletto to get her sponsors? Do you know how many empty rooms or empty promises she got starting around? I know I was there. Nevertheless her first paid gig she received some Roc Nation headphones worth over $300 and more than $400 cash to play for 2 hours. I know I am the ONE who negotiated it. Will she pass your music around to people she meet? No, she won't. She will trash all the files from those artists who did not show up period. Is it fair? You tell me. You want to get everything for nothing is that fair? you tell me. The fact is you may not like what I say you may not like what I do; you may not like me. And that's OK with me I do not expect you to to so. I am happy if you do but I am fine if you don't. Like it or not I believe in myself and what I do. I show up open the doors to a large space pay for champagne and food for the artists from my own money of course and I don't collect money from you or your fans at the door. I give you an opportunity to do your thing get your camera in and perform in front of your fans. So where you are right now I have been there. The place I am now you can be there; you can be further really you can be anything you want. but you will have to start somewhere: AT THE VERY LEAST SHOW UP and PICK some FRIENDS ON THE WAY TO SUPPORT YOU. There were a lot of missed promises but I know I was there DJ Stiletto was ready for you. The first edition last month she skipped a model audition that was conflicting with our sound check to be there; she knows me for years but she called me every step of the way climbed in cabs to be there for me and by extension for you. As an artist if you can't bring at least 5 people on your name it is time to reconsider who follows on Twitter and Facebook; for real. Realize they got a lot of excuses for not coming ; but in truth they don't have your back. This is my advice to anyone who want to succeed in this industry: Go get what you want if you need supporters go knock on their doors you know where they live tell them you will pick them up at a certain time ride the train with them. Get it done. Get several people to drive and pack their cars with your fans. Record labels will continue to pay the same recording artists and not you because these recording artists did what you were not willing to do. Now you can still go and start selling $25 tickets for the next PR Parade "After party" or whatever; where the promoters promise you you will perform but you really won't. You can continue to be a follower or feel that you are entitled to get everything served to you. You can do whatever you want but at least you know what we are about. We want to see you succeed; we want to see you live your dreams; we put our money and resources where our mouths are. Please stay tune for the date of our 3d edition of Live on Stage.
