1 So you are from Oklahoma City. whats the Hip-Hop scene like there? Here in Oklahoma City everybody has got the right idea, but no resources like the bigger markets. Nobody here with "real" money is willing to invest their time or reputation to bring in more attraction, more glamour. Don't let me confuse that with the hardworking artists within this great city who put in their time and money. There's beyond enough talent here to build another hip hop mecca, just no outlet. Its slowly but surely brewing up here in Oklahoma City, we all just have to get out of state to do it, ironically. There are a lot of people out here trying to help create an artistic atmosphere for everyone to enjoy, just more conservatives battling the stereotypes. You can see the growth though, the city itself is starting to adapt to the culture so it wont be long. 2 Can you tell us about your musical history and what led you to the point you are at in your career? I can and it starts with My mom being obsessed with Michael Jackson, the black one. I would run around the house in my diapers, stand on my tiptoes, and grab my crotch "hee-hee". People would laugh, and who doesn't like to see people smiling? I was an only child and naturally became a "show off" so to speak. Thats why i liked MJ so much his energy and tact about his performances were unbelievable, rest in peace. Its all my moms and grandma's fault, in a good way. The two of them had great taste in music. All the soulful oldies from Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Boyz II Men. Pretty sure my grandma still has a copy of Tupac's "All Eyes On Me" in here disc changer. Point is i used to think i was an R&B singer/dancer/gangster as a kid. I remember being 12 yrs old in Missouri performing a halftime show of "Real Close" by NEXT for my mom and her friends. After finding out later in life what that song was about, i know now why they all laughed. All I’m saying is i was performing at a young age, though then it was all just fun i was always in those creative extracurricular activities. Poetry and short stories were always my favorite, i could make up whatever i dreamed and it would be okay. Teachers seemed to always enjoy what i had to say even then. Within those activities were very few black people, weren't many in the town i went to high school at, so we naturally became friends. I Met one of the Members of Sativa Prophets (Tedajet) on the first day of choir class. Fast Forward, meet a dude named Courtney (Ayedoe8) and everybody said that we reminded them of each other, we tried to tell them its because we were both colored(laughter). Had a fundraiser festival did some karaoke, got suspended because the spanish sang "like a virgin" and we got too explicit. The three of us later started a hip hop group name "Kneighbourhood" we wrote and recorded five projects, the most recent being "BlackLight America". Performed at many shows and festivals like SXSW and Center of The Universe. Decided it was time to parts ways, go solo, and start a movement. Met a couple of guys we gelled well with one being Igloo Panda (my producer) and Rodrick Malone to create whats now "Sativa Prophets". 3 You next project is Milk & Honey, what can we expect from this album? Milk n Honey is a mixture, pretty much an introduction of what we're planning to do in the future. You'll have fun with songs like "L.O.L." Featuring Rodrick Malone and "Duck Sauce" Featuring Tedajet and AyeDoe8. Then be invited in to my life during "Forever Forgettable" and "The Way It Goes" Featuring Velma Louise. It's Sativa Prophets, you're going to be enlightened on many emotions. I write with an attitude mixed with humor, basically anything I’ve ever gone through in life I’ve tried to make light of, to make it easier to talk about (probably bad for you) and thats the basis to a lot of what you'll hear. Im going to sound really pissed off, while telling the truth in a joking manner and then sing for the ladies(laughter). Far from Usher or Timberlake, but you'll see what i mean. 4 What are your most memorable achievements this far and why? We're still building and networking. Biggest achievement thus far has been believing in each other and staying consistent. Its hard to take a group of individuals, even if like minded, and work from the ground up to create something. Before Sativa Prophets we all had done our fair share of time in the city opening for bigger acts, getting booked at festivals, and networking with great people. Those achievements mean nothing compared to the fraternity that was born. Even if me or anything the prophets Aaron!!, Nada Problem etc..were to go in another direction Sativa Prophets would still carry on. I believe that, and thats special. Or crazy, or a special kind of crazy. 5 Any last words ? What are your plans for 2014 and beyond from when you have the budget to launch Man, branding, branding, and more branding. Trying to go any and almost everywhere. Figure we start off with Milk n Honey as a free 14 track example of whats capable and see what the response is. So far its been great, tons of positive feedback. Im already working on my second project "Huck-a-Bee" which will be produced by Igloo Panda, Spring 2015 and a concept album/dvd "epicness". Working, working, working doing some collaborations with some people I’m excited about, i love jumping on beats i haven't heard before or wasn't there while it was being created. Lining up the merchandise and product to prepare for a tour with the homies MilitantxMindz. We're definitely staying a step ahead of what we have planned just going to take some more time and money. Going to keep writing, recording, networking, and having fun. if you are ready to get your bests on; your next destination must include Taepdecbeats Born and bred in the Bay Area is the creative, Tyson Amir. He is a rapper with poignant cadence, enlightening lyrics, and music with enough heart and soul to cross over generations. He is also a poet, song writer, label owner, designer, education, and lover of humanity. Each one of these layers are intricately involved in this man's drive for purpose. His recent album, aptly named Purpose, is a 'coming to' from a long musical journey. A hip hop gospel that embodies the realization of what he has known from an early age; music is his purpose. As a kid, he and his friends held up "will rap for food" signs. One would rap, the other would make a beat, and they'd all reap the reward. Since adolescence, he has been delivering stark truths over tight beats. CLICK TO READ MORE |
